Westlife Remaining Members, Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne, and Shane Filan, Will Continue the Celebrations as a Trio  after Mark Feehily had to step back due to health issues

In a heartfelt yet hopeful development that has stirred both emotions and excitement among fans, the iconic Irish pop group Westlife will continue their musical journey as a trio. The remaining members — Kian Egan, Nicky Byrne, and Shane Filan — have confirmed that they are committed to continuing the band’s legacy and upcoming celebratory projects, despite the recent absence of long-time bandmate Mark Feehily.

A Chapter Turns, But the Story Continues

The announcement, made in early June 2025, comes amid a wave of speculation about the future of the band after Mark Feehily’s continued absence due to personal health issues. While fans were hopeful for his return following his previous time off during 2022 and 2023, Feehily has since stepped away from touring and performing to focus on his well-being. Though he has not formally exited the group, his role remains uncertain, leading the remaining trio to make the decision to continue their planned performances and celebrations as a three-piece.

Westlife, known for their soaring ballads, harmonized pop hits, and emotionally rich performances, rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s. With over 55 million records sold worldwide, the group remains one of the best-selling boy bands of all time. Their hits like “Flying Without Wings,” “You Raise Me Up,” and “My Love” are etched into the memories of millions across generations.

Celebrating a Musical Legacy

Kian, Nicky, and Shane have emphasized that their continued performances are not only a tribute to their own enduring passion for music but also a celebration of their fans’ loyalty. The trio expressed their desire to honor every milestone the group has reached together, including more than 25 years in the music industry.

Speaking at a press event, Shane Filan shared, “This band has always been about heart, about our fans, and about the songs that have brought people together. While we miss Mark deeply, we respect his decision and continue to support him in every way. We also know how much these songs mean to people, and we’re excited to keep sharing them with the world.”

The group has already scheduled several performances throughout Europe, Asia, and Australia, with more dates expected to be added to what they are calling a “Legacy Tour.” This tour will celebrate Westlife’s extensive discography, with promises of both classic hits and newer material from their 2021 album, Wild Dreams, and their recent 2023 EP Timeless Skies.

A Trio with Unshakable Chemistry

This is not the first time Westlife has had to adapt to lineup changes. In 2004, Brian McFadden left the group to pursue a solo career, prompting the band to continue as a four-piece. That transition, though difficult, eventually led to some of their most critically acclaimed performances and albums. The trio now faces a similar test — but with two decades more experience, a mature fanbase, and a deeply bonded musical brotherhood.

Nicky Byrne, who has also had a successful career as a television presenter, reflected on the trio’s unity. “We’ve grown up together, we’ve weathered storms, and we’ve come through so much as brothers. This next chapter may look a little different, but the heart of Westlife beats just as strong.”

The Fans’ Role in the Journey

Since the announcement, the global fanbase — lovingly known as “Westlifers” — has rallied in support. Social media has been flooded with messages of love for both the remaining trio and for Mark Feehily, who continues to receive an outpouring of well-wishes.

Many fans have expressed that they view this new era not as the end of something, but as an evolution. One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Whether it’s four voices or three, Westlife’s music has always carried love, hope, and healing. We’re here for the journey — every step of it.”

What Lies Ahead

Looking forward, the trio has hinted at working on new material while also considering acoustic and orchestral arrangements of classic hits to reflect their current dynamic. There is talk of a special tribute concert that may include guest appearances by artists close to the group, with possible collaborations in the works to honor both Westlife’s legacy and Mark’s contributions.

While no official word has been released about Feehily’s long-term status with the group, insiders say that the door remains open should he choose to return.

In the meantime, Kian Egan offered this message to fans: “Thank you for standing by us. This music is bigger than any one of us — it’s about connection, memories, and shared dreams. We’re going to keep bringing that to the stage with everything we have.”

As Westlife moves forward as a trio, they do so not with a sense of loss, but with purpose, gratitude, and reverence for the journey that continues. For the group and their fans alike, the story of Westlife is far from over — it’s simply turning a new page.
