Westlife Announces Final World Tour Spanning 50 Countries and Teases New Album: Shane Filan Opens Up on Nicky Byrne’s Podcast

June 22, 2025 - by Daniel Terkula - Leave a Comment

June 2025 – In a heartfelt announcement that has sent waves of emotion through fans around the globe, Westlife, the legendary Irish boy band, has revealed plans for their final world tour. Titled “Westlife: The Last Flight”, the farewell tour will span 50 countries over 18 months, bringing the curtain down on an extraordinary musical journey that has lasted more than two decades. Alongside the tour, the group has also teased a brand-new album—potentially their last—sparking anticipation and nostalgia in equal measure.

The news came during a special episode of “The Nicky Byrne Show”, a podcast hosted by Westlife member Nicky Byrne. In an emotional and revealing conversation, lead vocalist Shane Filan opened up about the band’s decision, what fans can expect from the tour, and the powerful bond that has kept the group together for over 25 years.

A Global Farewell: “The Last Flight” Tour

Westlife’s final world tour is set to be their most ambitious yet. Kicking off in Dublin this October, “The Last Flight” will include performances across Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa, and Australasia. The band will visit major cities including London, Paris, Tokyo, São Paulo, Los Angeles, Cape Town, and Sydney, culminating in a final show in Dublin in March 2027.

The setlist promises a mix of their biggest hits—such as “Flying Without Wings,” “You Raise Me Up,” “World of Our Own,” and “Swear It Again”—along with new songs from their upcoming album. Special editions of the tour are being planned for key locations, featuring guest appearances and tributes to fans who have supported the band since their formation in 1998.

“We wanted this to be a thank you to our fans,” Shane Filan said during the podcast. “They’ve been with us through everything—breakups, reunions, solo projects—and we couldn’t imagine ending this journey without one last chance to share our music with the world.”

A New (and Final?) Album in the Works

Perhaps the biggest surprise was Shane’s confirmation that the band has been quietly working on a new album, which is expected to be released in early 2026. The yet-untitled album is rumored to blend classic Westlife ballads with more contemporary pop and acoustic influences, and it will likely serve as a reflective bookend to their extensive discography.

Shane described the songwriting process as “emotional but creatively invigorating.” “There’s a sense of closure in these songs,” he said. “We’re writing about everything—our early dreams, the struggles, the comebacks, and the people we’ve become. It’s personal.”

When asked by Nicky if this would truly be the group’s final album, Shane hesitated. “Never say never,” he smiled. “But right now, we’re pouring everything we have into this. If it is the last, we want it to be the best.”

The Podcast Revelation: Brotherhood and Vulnerability

The announcement on The Nicky Byrne Show was as intimate as it was newsworthy. The podcast format allowed for a relaxed, candid conversation between two lifelong friends. Shane and Nicky reminisced about their early days as young musicians in Sligo and Dublin, the whirlwind of fame in the early 2000s, and the emotional toll of losing bandmate and close friend Stephen Gately (of Boyzone fame), as well as the passing of Shane’s parents in recent years.

At one point, Shane opened up about his own struggles with grief and the role that Westlife—and the fans—played in helping him cope. “Music was my lifeline,” he said. “Being on stage, feeling that energy, it reminded me that there’s still beauty in the world even when it feels like everything’s falling apart.”

Nicky, moved by Shane’s honesty, shared how the band dynamic had evolved into something beyond professional. “We’re more than a band—we’re brothers. And this tour isn’t just for the fans, it’s for us too. It’s our way of saying goodbye to a chapter that shaped us.”

Fans React: A Mixture of Joy and Sadness

The announcement has drawn an outpouring of emotion on social media. #WestlifeFinalTour and #TheLastFlight quickly trended worldwide, with fans posting everything from throwback photos to heartfelt tributes. Many expressed bittersweet feelings—excitement at the chance to see the band one last time, and sorrow at the impending end of an era.

One fan wrote, “Westlife’s music got me through so many hard times. To think this is the last tour…it’s like saying goodbye to a part of my youth.”

Even celebrities joined the conversation, with Ed Sheeran (who has previously written for the band) tweeting, “Legends. Proud to have been part of your journey. Can’t wait for the new album.”

Legacy of a Generation

Westlife’s legacy is undeniable. With over 55 million records sold worldwide, 14 UK number-one singles, and countless awards, they are one of the most successful pop acts of all time. Yet, what truly sets them apart is their consistency—their ability to evolve while staying true to their emotional, vocal harmony-driven sound.

Their music has been a soundtrack to weddings, heartbreaks, and road trips for multiple generations. And now, as they prepare to take their final bow, they do so not in decline, but on a triumphant high.

Final Words

As Shane said on the podcast, “We don’t want to fade away—we want to go out in celebration. This tour is about love, gratitude, and everything we’ve built together.”

Westlife’s final journey will no doubt be one of the most emotional music events of the decade, marking the end of an era—but also a celebration of everything that made the journey worthwhile.

Fans can pre-register for tour tickets starting July 1st via Westlife’s official website, and the first single from the new album is expected to drop this September.

The flight may be ending, but the legacy of Westlife will soar on.
