Godsmack launched their 2025 tour in Sofia, Bulgaria, over the weekend, but fans quickly picked up on a major shift in the band’s lineup. Two familiar faces—drummer Shannon Larkin and guitarist Tony Rombola—were notably absent from the stage. Filling in were Will Hunt, best known for his drumming with Evanescence, and guitarist Sam Bam Koltun, a seasoned musician with credits in bands like Dorothy and Faster Pussycat. The performance marked a significant moment in the band’s ongoing evolution, even as they delivered a 15-song set packed with hits.
In the lead-up to the concert, frontman Sully Erna addressed the situation during an interview with Bulgaria’s Z Rock radio station. While careful not to reveal too much, Erna acknowledged that recent months have brought about changes within the band. Though he didn’t confirm whether the lineup shift was temporary or permanent, he was clear in reassuring fans that everyone involved is in good health and good spirits. According to Erna, the band is thriving creatively and personally, despite the current adjustments.
Erna went on to explain that both Larkin and Rombola are dealing with personal matters and needed to step back from touring, at least for now. He emphasized that the band’s priority is to respect their privacy while still showing up for fans around the world. “There’s going to be a bit of a different visual for everybody,” Erna noted, acknowledging the significance of the change. However, he also made it clear that the show must go on—with the help of talented friends stepping in.
When it came to discussing the guest musicians, Erna was enthusiastic. He praised Will Hunt not only as a strong musical fit but as a longtime friend of the band. As for guitarist Sam Koltun, Erna highlighted his extensive experience and noted that the group’s sound remains as tight and recognizable as ever. The chemistry onstage, he said, has been surprising in the best way. Despite the unexpected shift, Godsmack’s performance in Sofia proved that the spirit and power of the band remain intact.
The band is currently traveling across Europe for a 14-date tour, with support from Drowning Pool and P.O.D. Their final European show is scheduled for April 12 in Oberhausen, Germany. While future tour dates beyond Europe have not yet been announced, the group appears focused on delivering high-energy performances wherever they go. As for what lies ahead regarding the official lineup, fans will need to stay tuned—Godsmack isn’t finished yet.
