Madonna Has a Few Significant Updates Today: New Music, “Confessions Part 2,” the Long-Rumored “Veronica Electronica,” and a Netflix Limited Series Produced by Shawn Levy

July 9, 2025 - by Aboga Desmond - Leave a Comment

In classic Madonna fashion, the Queen of Reinvention has dropped a wave of significant updates that are electrifying fans across the globe. In what feels like a cultural reset, Madonna has confirmed that she is not only working on new music — including what many are calling a spiritual sequel to her 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor — but also reviving a once-abandoned project, “Veronica Electronica,” and collaborating with Netflix on a limited drama series about her life, produced by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, The Adam Project).

At 66, Madonna shows no signs of slowing down. Instead, she’s ramping up with a multifaceted comeback that touches on her music, legacy, and cultural influence. From the dance floors of Ibiza to the streaming queues of Netflix, Madonna is making 2025 her year — again.

Confessions Part 2”: The Return of the Dance Floor Queen

First on the list is the most exciting update for music fans: new material is officially in the works, and insiders suggest it’s a return to the euphoric, dance-driven sound of her Confessions on a Dance Floor era. This album, released in 2005 and produced with Stuart Price, remains one of Madonna’s most critically acclaimed and commercially successful records of the 21st century.

Now, nearly two decades later, she’s working on what’s being called a “spiritual sequel,” tentatively dubbed Confessions Part 2.

In a recent Instagram Live session, Madonna teased:

“The dance floor is calling again. I’ve got stories to tell — with a beat you can’t ignore.”

Rumors suggest that Stuart Price is back in the studio with her, alongside younger collaborators from the electronic and house scenes. Genre influences for this new project include:

  • French house and Italo disco
  • Berlin techno undertones
  • Early 2000s electronic nostalgia with modern minimalism

One source described the project as “a love letter to the dance floors we lost during the pandemic, and the ones that saved us.” There’s no confirmed release date, but fans speculate a lead single may drop before the end of 2025, followed by an album release in early 2026.

The Resurrection of “Veronica Electronica”: A Cult Project Reimagined

Madonna’s more experimental fans are also celebrating the long-rumored resurrection of a mysterious, shelved project: Veronica Electronica.

Originally rumored in the late ’90s and early 2000s, “Veronica Electronica” was said to be a remix companion to her groundbreaking 1998 album Ray of Light. Though never officially released, the title gained a cult following, with fans speculating it was meant to showcase deeper electronic remixes and unreleased material from the Ray of Light sessions.

Now, more than 25 years later, Madonna has confirmed that a Veronica Electronica project is finally being assembled — not just as a remix album, but as an audio-visual experience. It will reportedly feature:

  • Reimagined remixes of Ray of Light tracks by current electronic artists such as Arca, Sophie (posthumous collaboration via archives), and Peggy Gou
  • Unreleased outtakes from the original William Orbit sessions
  • A short film or visual companion directed by a yet-unnamed avant-garde filmmaker

This project bridges the gap between Madonna’s most spiritually introspective work and her club-kid roots, exploring femininity, technology, and transcendence.

“Veronica Electronica was always about my digital soul. Now she’s ready to speak,” Madonna posted cryptically.

A deluxe vinyl and digital release is expected in mid-2026, with previews likely coming later this year.

A Netflix Limited Series: Madonna’s Life, Reimagined for Streaming

As if new music and the resurrection of a cult project weren’t enough, Madonna is also stepping back into the cinematic arena — not with the long-delayed biopic she once planned to direct herself, but with a limited series on Netflix, produced by Shawn Levy, best known for his work on Stranger Things, Free Guy, and The Adam Project.

The series — still untitled — is said to be a dramatized retelling of Madonna’s early life and rise to global superstardom, from her scrappy arrival in New York City in the late 1970s to her breakthrough in the mid-’80s with Like a Virgin.

While Madonna is not directing this time around, she is heavily involved as an executive producer, and is reportedly reviewing scripts, casting choices, and even soundtrack decisions.

What We Know So Far:

  • Julia Garner, who was previously cast in Madonna’s halted biopic, is rumored to be returning in the lead role.
  • The series is expected to span eight episodes, each covering a distinct chapter of Madonna’s early career, including the formation of her band Emmy, her club days in the Danceteria scene, and her rise to MTV superstardom.
  • The tone is described as “gritty, punk, magical, and unapologetically feminine.”

Fans are cautiously optimistic, especially since the project gives Madonna creative input without the burden of directing. Many see it as a more feasible and collaborative way to tell her story, especially with a prestige producer like Shawn Levy on board.

The Triple Threat of Madonna’s 2025 Renaissance

With Confessions Part 2, Veronica Electronica, and a Netflix series all in development or production, 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year in Madonna’s already legendary career. Far from resting on her laurels, Madonna is curating her legacy with a level of control and creativity few pop icons ever achieve — and she’s doing it across multiple platforms and generations.

This moment isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about evolution. It’s about Madonna, once again, leading the conversation, on her own terms.

Final Thoughts: The Queen Is Not Done

Four decades into her career, Madonna is once again writing her next chapter — not from the sidelines, but from the center of pop culture. With her finger on the pulse of both the past and the future, she’s proving that reinvention isn’t just a brand for her. It’s a way of life.

Whether she’s spinning on the dance floor, diving into digital spirituality, or dramatizing her origin story for a new audience, one thing is clear: Madonna remains the architect of her myth — and she’s not handing the pen to anyone else.

As she recently posted:

“Legends don’t retire. They reappear.”

And Madonna, once again, is ready for her spotlight.
