Madonna Celebrates 40 Years of Dress You Up with Special Anniversary Rerelease

Madonna is honoring one of her early pop anthems with a new digital rerelease. To mark the 40th anniversary of her 1985 hit Dress You Up, the Queen of Pop has unveiled a three-track digital edition that revisits the vibrant energy of the original. This new release includes a fresh remix, a polished 12-inch formal mix, and an instrumental version of the song.

Originally released on July 31, 1985, Dress You Up was the final single from Madonna’s groundbreaking album Like a Virgin. The track, produced by the legendary Nile Rodgers, quickly became a fan favorite with its upbeat tempo and playful lyrics. Four decades later, its infectious charm continues to resonate with listeners across generations.

The rerelease comes with a heartfelt tribute. In a statement, Madonna dedicated the anniversary edition to Mario Paglino and Gianni Grossi — Barbie designers and devoted fans of the singer — who tragically passed away in a car accident in Italy earlier this week. “Thank you for dressing up so many of your creations in Madonna’s iconic looks over the years,” the statement read, reflecting on the duo’s creative passion and admiration for the star.

This anniversary drop follows closely on the heels of another rare Madonna release. Just last week, she finally shared Veronica Electronica, a long-shelved remix album tied to her Ray of Light era. Featuring remixes by some of the biggest names from the late 1990s electronic scene — including William Orbit, Sasha, BT, Peter Rauhofer, and Victor Calderone — the album also includes the never-before-released track “Gone, Gone, Gone,” co-produced with Rick Nowels.

While Madonna hasn’t released a new studio album since Madame X in 2019, her legacy remains very much alive and evolving. In addition to her music, she’s also collaborating with filmmaker Shawn Levy on a new Netflix limited series. Although it’s unclear which phase of her storied career the show will highlight, anticipation is growing — especially since actress Julia Garner has confirmed she’s still set to portray Madonna in the long-discussed biopic project.
