F1 Organizers Postpone All February Pre-Season Tests in Bahrain Amid Unforeseen...

Formula 1 organizers, led by Formula One Group under Liberty Media, have announced the postponement of all scheduled February pre-season testing sessions at the Bahrain International Circuit due to adverse track and environmental conditions. The decision affects the two key three-day tests originally set for February 11-13 and February 18-20, 2026, which were intended to provide teams with critical mileage ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in early March.

The Bahrain tests were a cornerstone of preparations for the groundbreaking 2026 regulations, featuring major changes to power units, aerodynamics, and active aero elements. Following a private shakedown in Barcelona in late January—where most teams debuted their new cars—the Bahrain sessions were expected to offer the first public glimpse of all 11 teams, including Williams, which had missed Barcelona due to development delays.

Sources indicate the postponement stems from unexpected issues at the Sakhir circuit, including persistent sand ingress, temperature extremes impacting tire performance, and safety concerns related to track surface integrity observed during recent inspections. These “conditions” were deemed unsuitable for safe, representative running with the highly sensitive new-generation machinery.

Formula 1’s CEO Stefano Domenicali stated: “The safety of drivers, teams, and staff remains paramount. While disappointing, this adjustment ensures the best possible testing environment as we enter this transformative era.” The FIA, which sanctions the championship, supported the move in coordination with circuit authorities.

No immediate rescheduling dates have been confirmed, but organizers are exploring alternative venues or delayed timelines in the Middle East to minimize disruption to the calendar. Teams now face compressed preparation time, potentially shifting focus to simulator work and private runs. Fans holding tickets for public access days (February 12-13 and 19-20) will receive refunds or transfers.

This rare intervention highlights the challenges of adapting to revolutionary technical rules while maintaining the sport’s rigorous safety standards. The F1 community awaits further updates as the countdown to Melbourne continues.
