Depeche Mode Enlist Kid Moxie for a Synthwave Duet in New Version of “Wagging Tongue”

In a stunning fusion of past and future, Depeche Mode has teamed up with Greek-American synthwave artist Kid Moxie for a reimagined version of “Wagging Tongue,” one of the standout tracks from their latest album, Memento Mori.

Known for her cinematic, dreamlike take on electronic music, Kid Moxie brings a fresh, ethereal energy to the song, transforming it into a neon-drenched duet that bridges Depeche Mode’s signature darkwave with modern synthpop. The new version features a haunting vocal interplay between Dave Gahan’s deep, brooding delivery and Kid Moxie’s hypnotic, airy melodies, giving the song a more intimate and otherworldly feel.

“We wanted to explore a different sonic world with this track,” Martin Gore shared in a press release. “Kid Moxie’s style adds a cinematic depth that we felt complemented the song’s mood perfectly.”

The production leans into a retro-futuristic aesthetic, incorporating lush analog synths, pulsating basslines, and shimmering electronic textures reminiscent of 80s sci-fi soundtracks. The track’s lyrics, a critique of blind conformity and whispered dissent, take on a new sense of urgency against this dreamy yet unsettling backdrop.

Accompanying the release is a visually striking music video, directed by longtime Depeche Mode collaborator Anton Corbijn. The video follows a mysterious, neon-lit journey through a dystopian cityscape, where two shadowy figures—symbolizing conflicting voices in one’s mind—slowly merge into one.

Fans of both Depeche Mode and Kid Moxie are already buzzing about the collaboration, hailing it as a perfect blend of nostalgia and innovation. The synthwave revival meets classic darkwave—a match made in electronic music heaven.

“Wagging Tongue (Synthwave Duet)” is set for release across all streaming platforms next week, with a limited-edition vinyl pressing available for collectors. One thing is clear—Depeche Mode continues to evolve, proving that their music is as timeless as ever.
