Depeche Mode Announces Final World Tour Spanning 50 Countries and Teases New Album: Dave Gahan Opens Up on Martin Gore Podcast

June 7, 2025 - by Daniel Terkula - Leave a Comment

June 2025 — In a revelation that has electrified the global music community, legendary synth-rock pioneers Depeche Mode have announced what is being described as their final world tour, a massive undertaking that will span 50 countries across six continents. The announcement came in tandem with an emotionally candid podcast episode hosted by guitarist and chief songwriter Martin Gore, in which lead singer Dave Gahan opened up about the future of the band, their evolving relationship, and a new studio album currently in the works.

A Tour to Celebrate—and Say Goodbye

The tour, titled “Final Frequencies: The World Tour”, is being billed not just as a farewell to international touring but as a celebration of over four decades of genre-defining music. Starting in September 2025 in Berlin—a city the band has long called a creative home—the tour will continue through Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Africa, and Australia, culminating in London in the summer of 2026.

“We wanted this to be a celebration,” Gahan said during the podcast. “Not a funeral. We’re not disappearing off the face of the Earth, but this will be the last time we take something this massive around the globe.”

Venues include iconic arenas and open-air stadiums, but also intimate theaters in select cities—a nod to the band’s early days and their desire to connect more personally with fans one last time.

New Album on the Horizon

Perhaps even more thrilling for fans is the surprise announcement of a new studio album, still untitled but expected to be released in early 2026. This will mark the band’s 16th studio album, following 2023’s Memento Mori, which was both a commercial and critical success and served as a poignant tribute to longtime keyboardist Andrew Fletcher, who passed away in 2022.

“We’ve always made music that speaks to the times we live in,” said Gore during the episode. “This record is no different. There’s a lot of reflection, but also defiance. It’s about endings, yes—but also about survival, transformation.”

The album, according to Gahan, will contain around 10 to 12 tracks and is currently in post-production. He hinted that the sonic palette is more experimental, drawing influence from Berlin-era Bowie, ambient techno, and even post-punk resurgence acts like Fontaines D.C. and IDLES.

“We’ve pushed ourselves,” Gahan said. “There’s darkness, as you’d expect—but also moments of light. We’re not trying to be young again, but we’re not burying ourselves either. It’s a full-circle moment.”

A Podcast Unlike Any Other

The setting for these revelations—a new podcast series titled “Wires and Souls,” hosted by Gore—offered a refreshingly intimate platform for Gahan’s reflections. The two bandmates have rarely spoken in such open and heartfelt tones, making the episode a rare insight into one of music’s most enduring and enigmatic partnerships.

Gahan discussed the evolution of their friendship, the creative tensions that have fueled their greatest work, and how the loss of Fletcher affected them both personally and professionally.

“There was a time when I wasn’t sure we’d carry on,” Gahan admitted. “But we realized we still had something to say. And we owed it to Fletch—to ourselves—to say it properly.”

Gore, for his part, was equally candid, sharing that the podcast was born out of a desire to “document the end, not as a fading out, but as a statement.”

“We’ve never been great at showing people who we are behind the music,” he said. “This was a way to do that—with honesty and clarity.”

Legacy and Impact

Depeche Mode’s legacy is nearly impossible to quantify. From their early beginnings in Basildon, Essex, to selling over 100 million records worldwide, the band has redefined what electronic music could be—infusing it with grit, soul, and political edge. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020, and their influence is felt across genres—from industrial rock and techno to pop and indie.

Artists ranging from Nine Inch Nails to Lady Gaga to The Weeknd have cited Depeche Mode as formative influences. Their aesthetic—minimalist, melancholic, but unrelentingly powerful—continues to resonate with new generations.

This final tour, therefore, is more than just a goodbye. It is a cultural moment—one that offers fans the opportunity to celebrate a band that has consistently defied categorization, trends, and the odds.

Final Frequencies Tour: Dates, Tickets, and Special Guests

While the full list of dates is expected to be released later this month, early confirmed cities include Berlin, Paris, New York, São Paulo, Tokyo, Cape Town, Sydney, and London. The band has also teased a number of special guests, including collaborations on stage with younger artists they’ve inspired.

Tickets for the first leg of the tour will go on sale June 21, with a pre-sale available for members of the band’s official fan club.

A portion of the proceeds from the tour will benefit the Andrew Fletcher Music Foundation, aimed at providing musical education and mental health resources for underserved youth worldwide.

What’s Next?

When asked if this truly marks the end of Depeche Mode, Gahan paused before answering:

“Never say never,” he said with a laugh. “We’re not doing the full-world slog again, but Martin and I… we’re lifers. Whether it’s a soundtrack, a side project, or a surprise single in five years, we’ll always find a way back to the music. That’s just who we are.”

Gore agreed. “We may be unplugging the machines for a bit. But the wires—they’re still alive.”

Final Thoughts

As the final tour looms and fans prepare to say goodbye, Depeche Mode’s legacy remains not just intact, but vibrant. Through pain, evolution, and perseverance, they’ve carved out a sound and ethos entirely their own. And if this is indeed the closing act of their storied journey, it promises to be as unforgettable as everything that came before.
