Kate Cassidy has broken her silence following reports that she will not inherit any of the late Liam Payne’s multimillion-euro fortune. The One Direction singer tragically passed away in October 2024 at just 31 years old after a fatal fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
Despite dating Payne for two years and being by his side in the days leading up to his death, American model Cassidy has not been named among the beneficiaries of his estate, which is valued at over €28 million after debts.
According to UK intestacy laws—Payne died without a will—his entire fortune will go to his eight-year-old son Bear, whom he shared with former partner Cheryl Tweedy. Cheryl has been appointed to oversee the administration of the estate, alongside music lawyer Richard Bray, as confirmed by court documents filed on May 1.
“Liam had some very sensible people around him for a time and he adored Bear so much,” a source told The Mail. “It is a small consolation that Bear will never want for anything, that he will at least benefit from that.”
Though Cassidy will not receive a financial inheritance, she has continued to honor Payne’s memory publicly. Hours after the news broke, she posted a light-hearted image to her 900,000 Instagram followers showing the contents of her handbag—complete with a Starbucks snack and hair extensions—captioned: “What’s in your purse? Mine: starbucks and @glamseamless.”
In a more emotional moment, Cassidy acknowledged a fan who commented on a rainbow photo she shared, suggesting it was a sign from Liam. “He had to say hello,” she replied. In a separate post, she shared a mysterious note she found while cleaning out a purse, featuring a crown and the numbers “444” — a number often associated with spiritual guidance and protection. “Sign for today,” she wrote.
Cassidy also made a glamorous appearance at the Miami Grand Prix recently, wearing a bold black faux-leather top, denim shorts, and a red Ferrari cap—marking one of her few public outings since Payne’s passing.
Payne’s estate was published under a limited Ad Colligenda Bona grant, typically issued when property must be managed or sold before a full estate settlement. Though Cheryl and Liam separated shortly after Bear’s first birthday, Payne remained committed to co-parenting and reportedly made financial plans years ago to ensure his son would be cared for.
Announcing Bear’s birth back in 2017, Liam had written, “My close friends and family know there are very few times when I’m left speechless… wow!” That deep love appears to have endured until the very end, with Bear now the sole heir to his father’s legacy.
