Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has urged the club to consider securing a loan move for Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen from Napoli before the current transfer window closes. Ferdinand, recognizing the club’s struggles in attack, believes Osimhen could provide a much-needed boost while also playing a key role in mentoring young forwards Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Currently on a season-long loan at Galatasaray, Osimhen has impressed with his outstanding performances. The 26-year-old striker, who has been in sensational form, has already scored 16 goals and contributed five assists across 20 appearances, including a remarkable 12 goals in just 15 league games. However, despite his current loan spell in Turkey, Osimhen remains contracted to Napoli until June 2027, giving his parent club significant control over his future.
Ferdinand, speaking on the *Rio Presents* podcast, expressed his admiration for Osimhen and suggested Manchester United should act swiftly to bring him to Old Trafford. “I’ve been watching Højlund closely, especially in the last couple of games… it just doesn’t add up,” Ferdinand said, emphasizing that Osimhen’s addition could address United’s attacking concerns. He further added, “If we can make it happen financially, I’d go for him on loan right now.”
The former Manchester United defender pointed out Osimhen’s proven track record, noting his goal-scoring ability, experience, and success at the highest levels. “He guarantees you goals, and with his experience, he’s someone who can step in immediately,” Ferdinand remarked. He also highlighted that both Højlund and Zirkzee, young strikers at United, could greatly benefit from learning alongside someone who has already proven himself as a top-tier forward.
FIFA regulations would allow Osimhen to represent a third club this season, as he did not feature for Napoli before his loan to Galatasaray. This technicality could open the door for Manchester United to pursue a potential deal, assuming Napoli is willing to recall him and grant permission for the striker to move to England. With Manchester United’s need for a goal-scoring striker, Osimhen could be the key to reviving their offensive prowess during the second half of the season.
