Chris Hemsworth’s tribute to Thor was “misconstrued” as a farewell to the Avenger as the Marvel actor confirms it was actually an emotional “moment of gratitude” before Doomsday

Chris Hemsworth has set the record straight about a recent tribute he shared to his beloved Marvel character, Thor. Fans had speculated that the heartfelt message marked his official goodbye to the role he’s played for over a decade. However, Hemsworth clarified that his words were not meant as a farewell but rather a moment of deep appreciation for the journey he’s had as the God of Thunder. The emotional post, shared back in May, featured iconic moments from Thor’s cinematic run, prompting many to believe he was stepping away from the MCU. But according to the actor, this wasn’t the case at all.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Hemsworth explained that the tribute was simply misunderstood. “Some people thought it meant I was done with Thor,” he said. “But for me, it was about acknowledging how much this character and the fans have meant to me over the years.” He emphasized that there was no need for any formal correction or “damage control” because nothing had actually been announced or decided. It was just a sincere reflection, prompted in part by preparations for his next major Marvel film, Avengers: Doomsday.

The tribute, which included lines like “Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” was interpreted by many as a curtain call. But Hemsworth was simply looking back with gratitude, not announcing a departure. As he prepares to return to the big screen in Doomsday, where he is rumored to play a central role, the actor remains very much involved in the MCU. While many were quick to jump to conclusions, the reality is that Hemsworth was just sharing a personal moment, not writing his final chapter as Thor.

There’s no denying that Hemsworth’s portrayal of Thor has been one of the most defining elements of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Spanning over 15 years, from his debut in Thor to appearances in The Avengers series and Thor: Love and Thunder, his journey has evolved alongside the franchise itself. Now, with Avengers: Doomsday on the horizon and a multiverse of characters joining the mix—from the Fantastic Four to the X-Men—Hemsworth’s role continues to be pivotal. While he remains tight-lipped about what’s next for Thor, one thing is certain: he’s not done yet.

So, despite the buzz around a potential exit, Chris Hemsworth isn’t hanging up Mjolnir just yet. With a major role lined up in what’s shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most ambitious crossover events, the thunder still rolls for the Asgardian hero. As fans eagerly await what’s next for Thor, Hemsworth’s recent tribute should be seen for what it truly was: a genuine thank-you, not a goodbye.
